Ally Light Tunnel is a two-story digital pathway bridging the office and community at the Ally Bank corporate center in Charlotte, NC.
The installation serves as both a light tunnel and an outward-facing neighborhood canvas. Whether it’s cheering for the 48 Ally Chevrolet at NASCAR or turning blue with the whole town for Charlotte FC, the light tunnel uses the interplay of artificial and natural light, along with dynamic colors and patterns, to convey Ally's innovative values.
The design reflects Ally's genuineness, authenticity, and inclusivity, making it a vibrant symbol of the company's commitment to its community.
PROJECT OBJECTIVE• Strengthen Ally’s brand engagement
• Exhibit community messages
• Provide the employees an inspiring office art
CONTEXTThe tunnel has three LED layers—on the wall, window, and ceiling—providing an interior view as a light tunnel for the employees and a exterior view as a LED art facade that allows for varied viewing angles and simultaneous perspectives, depending on the viewer’s distance from the premises, the multimodal display accommodates close-up and distant observers within a single creative framework.
CHALLENGEThe biggest challenge was calculating virtual & physical distances and figuring out the framework to correctly map the animation on the platform, ensuring it looked stunning from all angles while preserving the content's legibility and accuracy.
This was achieved by setting up a series of adaptive templates in After Effects and previs software.
